Meet Gheeda and Keenda, two cute little sisters who were generous enough to join me for my first official children photo-shooting session.
Now while many parents out there keep worrying about what their children would become in the future, luckily for us, a photo is still there to remind us of who those children really are today.
A good shooting session should begin with proper direction, so I picked a location with wide open space (public park in this case), researched proper foreground and background, had my subjects ready with a smile, and most importantly, watched out for the direction of light (highly recommended to shoot at the last light in late afternoon).
Well, given those preparations, besides Gheeda’s excitement and Keenda’s silent joy, I was screaming out a loud and big “TA-DA, my photos will never go wrong today”.
Now meet Gheeda, a 6-ish years old child who never runs out of joy. As much as she likes dancing and singing, she loves to pose for a camera taking her picture.
And now meet Keenda, a 3-ish years old child with a hidden smile that consumes your full attention when it goes out to public. Being very quiet in nature, as opposed to her highly-active sister Gheeda, Keenda gave my camera the pleasure of shooting her nostalgic smile.
Frankly speaking, I went out on this session having preset photos in my mind of those children, but it turned out to be really difficult controlling their behavior and asking them to follow my instructions, let alone the presence of toys around the place that distracted them. Eventually, I came to the conclusion to let them do what they like to do, and the moments will come naturally.
I learned that you should not ask them to smile, but rather make them smile. “Smile you bugger” would not be a good choice of words, but give them something that can make them smile, and you’ll get your moment.
Thank you Gheeda and Keenda for such a remarkable late afternoon.
